Waste Not, Feast a Lot! (In Development Demo)

Step into the fast paced kitchen where culinary skill meets eco conscious strategy!

Welcome to "Waste Not, Feast a Lot!" – a 3D restaurant management simulation game with a crucial twist. You are the head chef, tasked not only with whipping up delicious meals for a stream of hungry customers but also with tackling one of the modern world's biggest hidden challenges: food waste. Can you run a successful, bustling kitchen while keeping your environmental impact to a minimum?

Gameplay: The Heat is On!

Dive into the core gameplay loop familiar to fans of cooking and management sims. You'll receive incoming customer orders, requiring quick thinking and efficient movement. Dash to the pantry and fridge, grab the necessary ingredients – but be mindful! Select the wrong item or let fresh produce sit too long, and you're on the path to waste.

Utilize various cooking stations like cutting boards and stoves to prepare meals according to specific recipes. Chop vegetables, fry patties, assemble complex dishes – all while keeping an eye on the clock. Serve the correct meal to the correct customer before their patience runs out! Success brings rewards, but failure has consequences...

The 'Quants' System: Measuring Your Impact

  • Ingredient Spoilage: Perishable items have a limited shelf life! Keep track of freshness, use older ingredients first, and plan your inventory carefully. Discarding spoiled food directly increases your Quants.
  • Order Errors: Served the wrong dish? Burnt the burger? These mistakes lead to rejected meals that must be thrown out, adding significantly to your Quants score.
  • Inefficiency: Dropped ingredients or poorly managed prep can also contribute to waste.

Your goal isn't just profit or speed; it's keeping that Quants score as low as possible!

Consequences: The Rat Menace!

Letting food waste pile up has real, tangible consequences in your kitchen. If your 'Quants' score exceeds a critical threshold, your poorly managed kitchen will attract some unwanted guests; a rat infestation! This penalty serves as a clear, thematic indicator that your waste management practices need serious improvement, potentially adding further challenges to your gameplay.

Learn Through Play: Inspired by SDG 12

"Waste Not, Feast a Lot!" is inspired by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), specifically targeting the reduction of food waste (Targets 12.3 and 12.5). While aiming to be a fun and engaging management game, it subtly integrates the importance of resource efficiency. By mastering the game's mechanics, you'll implicitly learn strategies relevant to reducing food waste in real life, making the learning process interactive and enjoyable.

-- IMPORTANT: Current Status - In Development Demo --

Please be aware that this version of "Waste Not, Feast a Lot!" is currently in development and serves as a demo. The core gameplay loop (taking orders, preparing ingredients, cooking, serving) and the central 'Quants' waste mechanic with its penalty system are implemented for you to experience.

However, many planned features are still under construction, including:

  • Advanced progression systems (unlocking recipes, tools, kitchen upgrades)
  • A wider variety of ingredients and recipes
  • Detailed character customization
  •  Narrative elements or campaign mode
  • Further optimization and polishing

Your Feedback is Vital!

As a solo developer working on this project, your feedback during this demo phase is incredibly valuable! Please share your thoughts on the gameplay, the waste mechanics, the UI, performance, and any bugs you encounter. Your input will directly help shape the future development of the game.

Download the demo now, put on your chef hat, and see if you have what it takes to run a thriving restaurant while mastering the mindful meal. Can you truly Waste Not, and Feast a Lot?
